Do you know what I hate?

Lying, Cheating & Deceptive People!!!!!

For the last 2 1/2 months I (we) have been dealing with a situation here on the homefront.  Yesterday was a day in "court" so to speak.  Back in November my MIL had suspicious activity on one of her bank accounts.  Because of her Alzhemier's, I help her with all her finances and thank goodness I do!

After phone calls and trips to the bank to get some answers where they reassured me that my MIL had made the withdrawl (which I didn't believe for a second).....I made a trip to the police.  After investigating it turned out that a trusted employee of the bank FORGED a withdrawl from my MIL's account!  This person was someone that I knew, that my MIL trusted and this person knew of my MIL's memory problems.

It wasn't just a small amount..........it was $5000.00

I was soooo mad and still am...

said individual was charged with 2nd degree Forgery and 3rd degree Theft....yesterday we find out that she "could" get a maximum of 2 years probation...WHAT?  She commited a Federal Crime in a Federal Institution!  she has to pay restitution and court costs, but to me it's a slap on the hand.

And to top it off...yesterday I heard these words from someone at the courthouse
"everyone makes a stupid mistake sometime in their life"

So...forging a document and stealing $5000.00 is nothing more than a stupid mistake!....I don't think so!

Anyway...I am trying to put this behind me...my MIL is relieved that it is over and for her sake I'm relieved also.  But, deep inside, I am still very upset.  I know that I should try to forgive and forget...I am trying..

But, I HATE Lying, Cheating & Deceptive People!!!!!
In my book, she should have to walk around for the next 5 years with a Scarlet Letter T for THIEF

Thanks for listening to my rant....

P.S. I announced the winner (s) of my Spring Giveaway in my previous post..

  1. Good Morning Sweetie...
Oh My Gosh, I cannot believe this woman is not going to have to do any jail time. As you said she commited a federal crime in a federal institution and this is NOT something that should be a simple slap on the wrist. I am so shocked. What has this world come to? When one gets away so simple, then others give it a try. My heart just breaks for you sweet friend and for your dear Momma as well.

You didn't mention, but did this person lose her job? I hope so. I would be standing outside picketing this bank if they continue to allow her to work there. Let others know what happened to your Mother and what could happen to them as well. What has this world come to?

Try to have a blessed day today sweet friend. I am so sorry that something so horrid has happened to you all. Vent, vent and vent some more anytime you want. We are here to listen. Many hugs and much love, Sherry

    1. Yes, she did lose her job...but, because she did not have a prior record...at thee nd of her probation period these charges will wiped clean, no record..as if they never happened.

  2. Oh Traci~ What a sad thing to do to a elderly person.I agree she should serve some time or do some community service. The sad part is your MIL will probly not ever see the money back in her account as she'll pay it off in small payments. It's hard to forgive people like that but believe me when I say what you put into the world is what will come back to you.May not catch up with her today but it will come back on her.Try not to let it eat you inside.Big Hugs!~Amy

  4. Traci, WOW! The slate will be wiped clean!!! That's not right!!! As Country Wings said, "What has this world come to" that it's just a slap on the wrist??? Yes, spread the word what employees of this bank do...even tho it was only one person. Glad you got to the bottom of it.
    Hugs,
    Lois

  5. Oh I will tell you being human I would b very mad too. That's crazy! Probation? Wow! Well I will tell you what the Lord lays on my heart to do and that's to just turn it over to him and let him take care of her. Wash your hands with her and try to move on. When I do this he takes care of it. But if I keep on it and try to take matters in my own hands he doesn't do a thing. I'm mad just reading about it and I don't even know you! Lol.

  6. People who take advantage of the helpless ought get the maximum that the law allows. But you can rest assured that, God has noted this, and will exact just punishment. You will receive peace as you thank God that He put you there to help your mother. Blessings.

  7. OMG Traci, she should get a larger punishment

so glad this is behind you, sorry that this happened to your MIL, there are so many dishonest people, I actually find my self feeling sorry for their stupidity!! Yes I would be angry as well. Nobody likes to see their loved ones abused or thanking advantage of
    Hugs to you

  8. So very sorry to read this Traci. Alas, now you know one of my many disillusionments with my chosen profession. "Justice" isn't always just - nor is it fair or even rational at times. Too bad the sentencing guidelines were ruled unconstitutional. And as for the person who chalked it up to a "stupid mistake" - there was nothing "mistaken" about it....theft requires intent and this woman certainly intended to steal. I agree - the punishment is by far too lenient for the crime. I was just talking w/ a friend yesterday about two things that really press my buttons big time: people who lie and those who steal....add to it that this one chose a person of limited defenses AND that she betrayed her position of trust, and I am shocked you're as calm as you are. Praying that you find some peace in this all....Me, I'd be feeling a very carefully worded letter to the editor of the local newspaper coming on.... It won't change things, no - but it'd at least be my version of the scarlet letter..... ;o) Hugs to you - and your MIL....Robin

  9. Hi Traci,
    How horrible!!!
I agree she did get off too easy.
And yes, it is Much More than a stupid mistake!!!
I cant believe someone would actually say that.

    Love the idea you had...
During those 2 years she should have to walk around with a big red "T" on hear clothing every day.
People might think twice before taking advantage of someone if they were publicly outed every day with what they did.

  10. OMG! Her record will be wiped clean? Now that's screwed up! And we wonder why our young people do the things they do...cause they get away with it. I am sorry this happened to your mil, but so glad that you were watching out for her....can't imagine what would have happened had this gone completely unnoticed. I don't think a scarlet letter would have even been enough to satisfy me...can you say tarred and feathered? Truly sad state our world is in....

Hope you have an awesome day.

  11. Hi Traci...I hate Lying, thieving deceitful people too. What has our country and all the lawlessness coming to. People do things because they can get away with it has been my thoughts for years.
It seems we can trust no one anymore and how sad is that. Thank God your MIL has you to look out for her because it would appear no one else would including the court system.
I'm with you a big T ought to have tohang on this persons back.
I often wonder what happened to being accountable for your actions. It seems people aren't anymore and so many people act as if that is permission to do all kinds of horrid things to others.

I'm really sorry that this happened to your family..Good you vented cause it won't do ya any good to carry around the anger..

    Take care my Friend!

    Hugs

  13. That forgery and theft are very distressing. I hope the person will actually repay the money; sometimes people don't, I have heard.
Take care dear friend, and do something nice for yourself today :)

  14. It seems that embezzlement and forgery are becoming more common. In our small town it seems to happen a lot and depending on who you are, who might just get a hand slap. Thanks goodness your MIL has you. How dare someone prey on the weak, no matter what their situation. If they are not punished they will do it again because it is too easy. Stay strong! ~*~Lisa

  15. She was terminated from the bank, though---RIGHT? It is not just a mistake, taking advantage of someone with alzheimer's and then lying about it. Rest assured, she will get hers in the end!

  16. Traci , how terrible , for a person to do this is just shameful but seems to be alot of it going on thats why the jails and prisons are overcrowded and they just smack them on wrist and let them walk ! 17. Yikes Traci - No wonder you are fuming! Hope this person gets the maximum penalty because, yeah...$5,000 isn't just a little mistake. Wishing the best for you and your MIL. Blessings

  18. I would feel the exact same way you do if I encountered this situation. That is just terrible. It never ceases to amaze me what some people are capable of!

  20. I think it is wonderful you have a relationship with your MIL. Not many DIL have that trust or care so much. Good thing she has you to look out for her & fight for her. How shameful this bank employee is. Knowing what she was doing & knowing your MIL s condition was not a mistake but taking advantage of her. From past experience I have little for the justice system. Blessings!

  23. I am so sorry to hear about your situation. Unfortunately, there are many instances where these dishonest, deceptive people prey on our elderly. Kudos to you, my dear, for foiling the crime.

It is truly unfortunate that our laws don't do a better job of protecting our elderly. Perhaps if these thieves had to face the music, these would think twice before attempting these horrific crimes.

God Bless! It is heartwarming to know that you are taking special care of your MIL and her interests.

    hugs,
    Carol

  25. People like that get the life they have chosen, don't worry. It helps me a lot to remember that people like that have to live with themselves 24/7. imagine?
You crossed her path for a short while.
Imagine what it must be like to BE her, to wake up in the morning with such twisted thinking? POOR HER.
Pray for her. At least we greet the day with peace of mind.

  26. So Sorry to hear this Traci. I would be fuming mad too!
That's like a slap on the wrist. In the long run she will get what she has coming to her. You are a wonderful person to be watching out for your MIL. My thoughts and prayers are with you both.

  27. I often comment silently to myself that "people never get what they deserve" and it's true. But, rest assured, more is coming to them in the here after. Glad you got it all worked out. Those that prey on the children, handicapped, and elderly are the lowest of the low. Makes me sick. -Steph-

  28. OMG! It's bad enough to do that to anyone, but to take advantage of your MIL's situation is reprehensible. She should get some jail
time, I'm not a big advocate of sending people to jail automatically
for something, but this is a major something.
I'm sorry this happened and I'm sorry you feel so insultated.
    It's not fair.
    Hugs,
    Susan
