Good Bye Allis

Allis's final ride...the ending of an era

How is it that one can become attached to iron & rust?

Last Friday, Allis took her final journey, taking with her a piece of my rusty heart.
This old broken down tractor was a big part of my life growing up, even with her seized up engine and rusted rims...she was still a beauty in my eyes.

You see, when I was a little girl, Dad & I made many a trips to the fields on this tractor.  Whether it be to spread manure or mow the hay.  Dad would be in the seat, me perched right beside him (my butt was a lot smaller then and I could fit between the fender and the seat)

We would stop on the way home in the early spring to dig leeks, wash them in the stream and eat'em on the way home.  Once, while hitching a ride in the front bucket I was accidentally dumped out, luckily I didn't get ran over & no broken bones :)

This is the first tractor I learned to drive...you had to have skills in shifting down as I can't remember Dad ever having a tractor with working brakes.  Even way back then, your hands would be blackened from the steering wheel after your drive.  Mine looked just that way last Friday while helping to steer her onto the flatbed truck.

Allis sat "at home" for years after Dad passed away with no attention.  It came to live on the mountain years ago with hopes that we could "fix her".  Too many years of neglect had proven fatal for Allis.

So, Allis sat longer, waiting for the day I was ready to let her go
...so let her go I did...

Wattle Fence...new in the garden

♥Happy Belated Mother's Day Greetings♥

I've been terrible about blogging as of late...  not much in the way of posting or visiting blogs

Yesterday I didn't have to worry about cleaning the house or cooking a meal (DH grilled a fantastic Mother's Day Dinner :)
so
I dove into my raised vegetable garden plot after we got the mowing and trimming done

First I tilled...soil all ready for planting
Transplanted some lettuce that survived the winter..almost enough for a fresh salad

Then I went to making a Make-Do Wattle Fence...I love fences and wanted something on the back side of the bed to support my sunflowers
it's a sparse Wattle to allow the sunlight through
Some seeds are in...Beans, Salad Greens, Spinach, Peas & Sunflowers
hope to get my Tomato, Pepper & Cucumber plants this week
I can already taste all the fresh veggies....!!  Tomato Sandwich..I am waiting for you

We have a bird family making their home in the garden bird house this year..no babies yet

Austin graduated college on Saturday...it was a huge ceremony
Empty seats awaiting the graduates
He's lost in the mix
Austin...we are so proud of you!!!

He is continuing his education...going on to get his Masters Degree

Blessings...Traci

One thing leads to another

Hi ya Friends...
This is a catch-up post of sorts..new treasures to share

I was the lucky winner of a FB giveaway hosted by Mary Flanagan
I received this beautiful "Token of Friendship" sampler hand done by Mary
it is a Notforgotten Farm design

Thank You Mary..I love it!

Purchased this super crock jug on Ebay last week, it's not old but I love the blues

And..
Yesterday my neighbor friend and I went to do a lil' pickin'
when we set out in the morning it was just another day of garage sales..
t-shirt, jeans and flip flops were my chosen attire for the day

Well, I should have worn my mud boots...cause by the time I arrived home, I had mud between my toes, LOL

So let me explain...at one of the sales I spotted a beautiful..falling down Sugar Shack
no camera but I had my phone so I had to take a picture

(can't seem to get the photo from phone to email:(
Hey, it finally showed up

that picture led to peeking in the door..and spotting an old sign
that led to hunting down the old man that owned the property
which led to asking if said sign was for sale
the answer.."yes"..."everything is for sale, I'm never going to use it"
~OH HEAVENS to BETSY~wrong answer, kind sir
so, that "yes"...

led me to enter said Shanty to retrieve sign and finding
MORE STUFF
Yesterday I turned -& American Picker
I found an old trapping basket, two 5 gal. buckets full of old traps, the sign,

and a fabulous old cast iron stove front
made right here in Warren County...the pat. dates are 1893-1909
notice the awesome "Keystone State" symbol

Needless to say...the back of my trailblazer was packed full

Also found a whole bunch of Chicken Feeders and Water'ers, and lots of smalls at other sales

So now, my porch (the one I'm trying to clean off)  is once again full of "stuff"..treasured stuff though ;)
Blessings, Traci
