Think Spring Decorating Part #2 - Sawbuck Table

Well, I know I'm safe now, the general consensus is it's NOT too early for Spring!

I wonder if Punxsutawney Phil will see his shadow on Groundhog's Day?

The new/old tin I got the other day while junkin' with Maygan

Filled with faux greenery

It sits atop an old nail keg that I draped with vintage bullet & lead shot ammo bags.

Here I used a wreath to "frame" a framed picture, added some Pheasant Feathers for interest.

Old barn pulley...love old farm tools & equipment like this!

This is the dining table...finally got rid of my Christmas gathering here too.

Jars, jars & bottles... filled the large 1/2 gallon jar with prim basket filler and egg gourds

The Fruits of My Labor ~ Primitives ~N~ Spring Part #1

Is it too early to start thinking Spring?

My dusting day turned into a full fledged mess, I must say. Always starts out as a small task at hand and

somehow I end up with the whole room...completely torn apart.

This area in my dining room is where my Natural Tree was this Christmas, finally took it down yesterday.

The display I put together to take it's place.

This is about the only real sign of spring I added to this area.

It's more of an everyday gathering, I reckon

This wooden cubby was in my kitchen until I made the stepback cupboard.

It has finally found a new "permanent" home

sitting atop a large wooden box, I think it makes for a great look.

Filled with needfuls aka junk

I aged some cheesecloth to use as a make-do valance for the windows in here, nothing fancy.

Awesome Find...Honey!

Rural Mountain Life has it's disadvantages...

such as

-the convenience of water & sewage services like offered in town,

no natural gas supply piped by our house, no cable TV service and

no garbage pick-up service either

BUT, there is also advantages to these disadvantages!

We have to take our bags of down the hill for pickup, all the neighbors on our mountain share a dumpster.

Well, last night it was hubby's turn to do so. He was so excited when he returned to tell me about the

Dumpster Delights he had found

Now, who on earth would throw these treasures away?

Not me but I'm glad one of our neighbors did!

We had another blast of snow last night....it was falling at record speed

about 6" in an hour or so...thankfully it stopped when it did.

We woke to pretty white this morning, blue skies and sunshine!

Today I'm off to do some cleaning (mostly dusting....where does it all come from?), maybe some rearranging/decorating. There have been some ideas floating around in my noggin for a few days now. Might just have to act on them.

Girls Day Out... Friday

No School = Girls Day Out

Yesterday my best girl, Maygan and I had a day out. Boy, oh, boy we put some miles on! Hit up every thrift shop in a 100 mile radius I think. What started out as a small venture turned into and All Day Adventure.

First we traveled across the NY state line to visit some junk stores and JoAnns. We got lunch To-Go and sit

by the frozen Lake Chautauqua...picture above, Maygan braving the very wet snow while Mom takes a picture.

A couple of my finds...thought the little Love Poems book was a great find with Valentine's Day coming up.

Dusty Baskets...looking through the dust I can see some Tulips for Spring and Red Geraniums for Summer in the twig basket...the lil' ones, who knows, I just like little ones.

Back in PA now and traveling west... glad we didn't have to travel in this

open Amish Buggy yesterday.

Yep, still behind them... going up a hill and look close

there's another one coming towards us (at least they have a closed buggy). We are in Amish Country!

A stop at a little shop in Corry.... found some to *die for fabrics* and a couple candle hangers.

Didn't buy as much fabric as I wanted to ;)

Same town...at the Whistle Stop Antique Store this time

In our travels I also found a book of vintage sheet music, some wooden candlesticks for primitive make-do bases, a paddle cutting board, & May found some books to read.

We had a great day!

Lots of laughter & love shared during our journey.

Tonight I will spending the evening with another one of my loves... my hubs... It's our Anniversary Eve.

Every Small Town in America...needs this to happen

We are fortunate where we live to have small family owned businesses left. I regularly

shop the local "feed" store...Agway, we have a small hardware, barber/hunting & fishing store, diners/restaurants, local pharmacy, non-corporate owned gas station and a hair salon. We try to patronize these places often.

If only everyone in America did the same. Next time you need something....think about the "little guy"

first, you may pay a few cents more for the item in need but you will be making a big difference in the life of an

American business man/woman.

*Instead of "big box" grocers and department stores....visit your local farmers for

fresh eggs & produce...heck even meat for your table. I love stopping at road side stands to shop.

*Instead of "big home improvement" stores...visit your local nurseries for your garden supplies, plants and seeds.

*Instead of visiting "big" garages the next time your oil needs changed or new tires..visit the little hometown service station.

*Instead of "department" stores...visit a local gift shop/craft show/or independent artist for your candles & pretties.

*Instead of complaining about the "big box" stores taking over...do something about it! As an American....help an American, it's how it all started and it's what we need to do to keep America...America!

Nine times out of ten...they will remember and greet you by name the next time you visit. They will know what you want to drink when you sit down at the table to order your meal.

I've personally been there, a small town retail business owner and it is tough trying to survive.

Let me start by saying...I hope all of our friends to the south are well this morning. I seen on the news this

a.m. that a line of severe storms that spawned many tornadoes went through their area early today.

We are in store for some gusty winds ourselves today...up to 50mph

We had a busy weekend... Saturday evening~ party at friends house.. we did a "junk" gift exchange, it

is always a blast to see what people dig up to bring as their gift...this year there were adult diapers, vibrating slippers, a raw egg and many more funny gifts involved, LOL

Yesterday we had family come to visit...

I took Amy's advice and updated my browser to google chrome and it seems to be working!

Now I just need to get used to the new browser....LOL..

Quickie in the Bushes.
There are two statues in a park; one of a nude man and one of a nude woman. They had been facing each other across a pathway for a hundred years, when, one day, an angel comes down from the heavens and, with a single gesture, brings the two to life.

The angel tells them, "As a reward for being so patient through a hundred blazing summers and dismal winters, you have been given life for thirty minutes to do what you've wished to do the most."

The male statue looks at the female, and she looks at him. Then, without
a word, they run together into the shrubbery.

The angel waits patiently while the bushes rustle and sounds of laughter ensue. After fifteen minutes, the two former statues walk out of the bushes, breathless and laughing.

The angel says to them, "Um, you have fifteen minutes left; would you care
to do it again?"

The male turns to his female counterpart and asks, "Shall we?"

She eagerly replies, "Oh, yes, let's! But let's change positions......

This time, I'll hold the pigeon down and you crap on its head."

Last Night

we had ferocious winds, along with rain/sleet, then snow

Our electric began to flicker and we know all too well, after three flickers,

it's going out...and it did.

while sitting, enjoying the quiet by the light of the oil lamps, I started thinking...

time seems to slow down when there is no electricity.

Why?...

maybe because one doesn't have all those digital clocks staring at you

with their brightly illuminated numbers...

they are everywhere.... kitchen stoves, microwaves, alarm clocks...on & on & on.

As the night crept on...slowly...I just looked around my dimly lit home...seems to look

so much better by the light of oil lamps and candles. Warm and Cozy

I went to bed thinking that I was born in the wrong century (I think this often)

..or maybe I'm a reincarnation of an old soul that walked & worked this land hundreds of years ago. Just yearning for the days of old. The simple ways, the simple life.

Revamped, Reworked, Refreshed

Those three R's.....aRe what I have been up to.

Revamped, reworked & refreshed both my selling blog and this one. I just can't seem to leave things the same way for too long. Guess it's like rearrranging the furniture!

Speaking of refreshed, we have a brand new blanket of snow...it's super cold & windy outside. The weather changed overnight and plunged us into winter once again.

Let's Catch Up....

My blog isn't off to a very good start for the New Year...

glad I didn't make a resolution to blog more because it would have already fallen

by the wayside ;)

So, let's see what has happened since the last time I did a real post....

Austin is still home on break from college, he and I took off on Tuesday

junkin'..didn't find too much..but it's always fun to hang out & have lunch!

He's got the best sense of humor of anyone I know so it's always a blast.

I'm sorry to say that our little Baxter (Maygan's hamster) passed away late last Saturday night, I bottle fed him for 7 1/2 days. He just wasn't getting any better, sad to see him go but really for the best. Something I learned through googling his symtoms...hamsters are considered an exotic pet (hense the vet's in our area not knowing or being able to do anything) and he was not the only one with the same exact symtoms . I found some other cases in which most of the hammies passed within 1-2 days if not sooner.

I had plans of spending this entire week in the sewing room...yea, you know how plans change.

Maygan woke up at 2 o'clock am yesterday morning with symtoms of a bladder infection, luckily I was able to get her into the doc yesterday morning. She's on antibiotics now but still home today. Yes, she IS going to school tomorrow, LOL...

In the meantime I have focused my efforts on some new Early Style Primitives for my website. They are my

absolute favorite to make and decorate with. The grubbier, dirtier and those with the most patches and mends are the best in my book, so imperfect that they're perfect! Made to look like they were pulled out of a much earlier era.

if they could shed light on what may be wrong, I have bottle fed and held him close for 6 days, shed more weight in tears than what he weighs, prayed for his recovery

and now, I pray for peace for the little guy.

How is it that such a little critter can become such a part big of your family?

New Year 2012 Wishes

Looking back at my year, I can now see the changes

the year we are leaving behind is the first full year without my mom,

Here is one of those projects of mine...unearthed while organizing after Christmas

Started so long ago that we will count in decades rather than years, LOL

An Elsa Williams ~ Crewel Embroidery Kit

started long, long ago........then forgotten

with Spring being the next season to welcome

and while in the midst of Winter

Let's see if I can finish this

The kit is called "Floral Festive" Bell Pull

so old it's out of print, unfinished

and already in need of repair (broken wool thread)

This is the work to be done.....not really that much

I figured instead of crocheting the winter evenings away (which is what I usually do

after Christmas), I'll put a few stitches into this project from time to time....

Another Christmas tucked into the Memory Book!

I'm tired of boxes, packaging, tape, little rubber bands and those

tiny plastic things that secure everything into those boxes & packages!

I do believe we have everything UN-packaged now....grrrrrr...

you need knives, screwdrivers, scissors, and lots of patience to get a toy

out of a box these days.

Everyone at the homestead had a nice, quiet, relaxing Christmas though..

yesterday was the day to clean-up and organize.

One more Christmas party to go, but not until New Year's Day. That's when my family will gather here

for good eats and the gift of gab. Presents just for the young ones (which will include more boxes, eeeeK)

Maygan was excited to think that we had gotten a box of Capri Sun Juice bags in the mail, LOL...

Tammy sent me this Prim Doll she made...she is the sweetest lil' baby I've ever seen. She looks so well loved but I can

guarantee that I am gonna love her some more...look at her patches and mends! just my style :)

She also sent a lovely Coverlet Piece in Blue... This is my first "official" coverlet to call my own and

I will think of you Tammy every time I look at it.

benefit the Silent Bid Auction. And to be completely honest, a bit overwhelmed!
I think that my computer is acutally smoking from downloading pictures and returning emails, LOL!

But ......(and I really hate to do this)

As much as I would like to keep adding to the auction, I am now going to end donations being accepted. We only have 4 days until the auction ends and are on a very tight deadline of December 20th. Thank you for your understanding!

Spoonful of Sweetness Party Favor & more gifts revealed

Friday Fun Craft

I am sharing a quick and easy Party Favor ~ Gift Idea today

Made these Spoonful of Sweetness Ornaments for

a Christmas party I hosted a few years back.

You will need:

Recycled Metal Spoons

Drill & Bit

Ribbon (for hanger)

White Craft Glue

Glitter

Small Jingle Bells

Simply drill a hole at the end of the spoon handle for ribbon hanger. Use an old paintbrush to spread white glue on portion of spoon you would like glittered, then sprinkle glitter on glue and let dry.

I made little paper hangtags for them that say

"Wishing you a Spoonful of Sweetness this Holiday Season"

They not only made cute party favors but would be great added to your homemade gifts if you

give homemade baked good mixes and/or coffee/tea/cocoa mixes. They look pretty hanging on the Christmas Tree...the glitter catches the light and just sparkles.

Lil' Primitive "Chalkware" Snowman

This is my Christmas Photo Share today

I stepped out of my "primitive creating box" and

tried something new. I have never, ever done papier mache art

before...that is until one Saturday a few weeks ago..Maygan and I decided to try.

She still hasn't finished her Snowman on a Stick yet...but yesterday I finally finished my creation.

And, here he is...

my Vintage Inspired

"Chalkware" Snowman

now, I know he's not perfect, but I am so happy

with him.

I made him a mache Cone Hat, carved Wooden Nose,

and painted his eyes.

He's quite lumpy & bumpy, LOL

He's antiqued & covered in German Glass Glitter

He's a Joyful Olde Soul, happy as can be

with his very own handmade Feather Tree.

I used an Old Green Wooden Thread Spool for the base, some tiny

prim garland and then decoupaged paper letters to spell

J~O~Y ... on the tree trunk

I had a nice day, my sis came to visit in the morning. We finally had our dinner at 8 o'clock

last night (Maygan had Girl Scouts)...then presents and cake.

Maygan was so excited at present time, you would have thought it was her birthday. She did "shopping" on her own at the last craft show, so it was extra special to give gifts she picked out all by herself.

She gifted me a candle, a sweet little snowgal angel ornament, & a "lovebug"

I also received a pretty red sweater, new pruning shears & holder (hubby knows that I like to go gathering in the outdoors), tons of Reese Peanut Butter Cups, & Christmas socks

The reason I incorporate my "everyday stuff" in with Christmas,

because I don't have any place to ~~store~~ hide it all....LOL!

and, it's just what would have happened years and years ago.

Families didn't have but a few "special" holiday decorations... women used

what they had, added something special like fresh greens or fruit to make their everyday wares festive.

As for my show yesterday...all went well (after we got there)

left home about 7:00am, my mountainous road was just fine

got down off the hill, onto the 4 lane highway and BLACK ICE

didn't realize it til I was on it, started to slide, heart pounding a hundred miles an hour

Maygan tearing up "Mom, I'm scared"

shhh, we'll be okay...let off the gas ~DON'T touch the brakes

Yes, it worked.... recovered and under control

Then I notice about 5-6 places in the median where others were not so lucky and went off the road

Thankfully, no accidents~~~~I tell ya, it scared the cr@p out of me

Sold lots more handmades yesterday, met some really nice folks

and heard from one lady "Wow, that snowman is really quite scary"

I had to laugh, it was one of my Extreme Snowmen and I guess

Primitives aren't for Everyone

You either Love'em or ya Hate'm

My Display

went from two tables last show to one...it was really packed full

I had extras in totes to fill in the empty spots as things sold

This big Jolly Good Snowman was adopted

Had a few repeat buyers from my show 2 weeks ago and got signed up for 2012.

Now I can officially unpack, put the displays away

and start decorating at home..

Hopefully I will have some pics to share with next week!

Howdy..... How have ya been?

My goodness, it's been almost a week since my last post....eeekkk

Miss you All!

The kids ~~FINALLY~~ went back to school today, now it's time to get caught up on all the Mom Stuff.

I managed to get 3 of my trees up with lights..no decorations yet, maybe next week that will happen.

Maygan and I ventured out on Black Friday, not real early but we found a couple of things on our list.

Stopped by Lowe's and scooped up 4 of these pretty little poinsettias for only 98 cents each.

Yesterday was the first day of deer season here in PA...it's a State Holiday (the kids never have school that day, LOL) Hubby didn't see anything (that's probably because we spent all day Sunday cleaning the garage getting ready and we jinxed it!) We process our own meat and the garage is the butcher shop. He's out now, hoping today is the day.

Just wanted to pop in and say Hi...hope everyone is doing well! I know this time of year, everyone is staying busy ;)

I'm calling Saturday's show a success!

Didn't sell out but sold lots of goodies.

Got to see some of my old customers from when I had my store in town, the weather was nice, good crowd

and an all around great day.

One down, one to go....my next show/last is December 3rd.

So in addition to preparing for Thanksgiving this week, I will be restocking some sell-out items

A new piece in the Dining Room

Over the summer I aquired this antique oak hanging writing desk. It was given to me by a friend....and has

been waiting for it's home in my home.

Yesterday, I finally figured out where I wanted it and went to work.

Before...

I had this in the corner

It's now sitting out on the porch with no home

I also put the leaf in the table for the

big Thanksgiving Dinner

And now I have a question??????

Has anyone ever painted beadboard walls?

I am not a big fan of this blue and would like a more "Olde N Aged" look on the walls.

But, I just haven't found "the look" I want.. need your input

so, what color, what technique

leave it and save myself the work, LOL?

Going to finish rounding up some final things today...eeeekk, I can't find the legs for my lattice display

I just finished up my last website update before my show next weekend. Listed close to 20 new goodies.

I have grounded myself from the computer for a few days...

and as a result the

I've been trying real hard to stay focused on crafting,

with two shows coming up (one of which I just took on another space)

I need lots of Christmas Goodies.

Oh, and of course, there is the everyday stuff too...

Laundry, meals, dishes, LEAVES, etc.

Today is supposed to be another glorious day!

Temps in the 60's and sunshine

Every nice day = one less cold winter day

We were up bright and early today, rise and shine...it's 5:00am

Maygan's school was 1 of 4 schools in the area to win a video contest

"How Cool is Your School"

this morning a TV station out of Erie, PA did a live broadcast from YEMS.
I spotted Maygan a couple of times on TV!

Go Eagles! You Rock!

and...tonight is Friday night High School Football

....."the big show? The main event?

That would be at Mike Shine Field in Youngsville, where the Eagles look to complete the school's first undefeated regular season since 1966 and win the Region 2 title outright against second-place Saegertown.

It doesn't get much better than that.
